Scott Dean Holds On To Win

Columbus, MS.......Two-day leader, Scott Dean from Terrell, Texas, held on to his lead to win the 2008 Grand Slam Championship today on Columbus Pool in Columbus, Mississippi. His two-day total was 27.64 pounds.

“I’m just relieved that I pulled it off”, said Dean, “I thought I had really messed up only bringing in 3 fish today. I went to the same area I had been fishing all week, and they just weren’t biting. All week I’ve had the creek all to myself. Finally this afternoon between I caught the 3 fish between 1:00 and 2:00pm. On the first day of the tournament, I used a swimbait, yesterday I used a square-bill crankbait, and today I caught them on a 6” worm. It was one of those weeks where you had to try just about everything”, he continued.

Texas Anglers Lead The Way!

Columbus, MS…… Cold and blustery conditions didn’t stop the Grand Slam competitors from their first day of competition for the National Championship title. Leading both the pros and co-anglers are competitors from Texas.  Scott Dean from Terrell, Texas, took the lead with 14.87 pounds as well as the big bass for the pro side at 5.02 pounds. “I wasn’t sure my boss was going to let me off, so I didn’t have any practice time on the water”, said Dean, “the last time I fished here was 2004. I did have a few spots in mind when I started the day and did catch a few small ones to start with. Then everything hit just right and I caught the 5 pounder and followed soon after with another 5 pounder. I was lucky enough to cull 3 times. This was my first year to fish the Grand Slam and I’ve really enjoyed it”, said Dean.

ABA TURNS BACK THE CLOCK ON ENTRY FEES WITH ITS NEW PROFESSIONAL TOUR

Athens, AL-August 30, 2006

The unrealistic escalation of tournament entry fees into professional tournaments coupled with skyrocketing fuel costs have left a lot of aspiring anglers and veterans out of the loop.  Professional angling has become the realm of the financially well off, those with major sponsorships, or those willing to risk bankruptcy or family financial hardships in order to compete.
