Russell Lee Takes Richland Chambers Grand Slam

Russell Lee Takes Richland Chambers Grand Slam

Just as the weatherman predicted, day two of the Richland Chambers Grand Slam was in dark contrast to the day one’s high winds and black skies. With 65 degree temps, bright sunny skies and less than 5 mph winds the fishing conditions were much more comfortable but that didn’t mean the fishing got easier. High pressure held the fish tight but Ennis, TX Pro Russell Lee was able to come up with the right strategy to bring home the win and take home the fully rigged Triton TR196 valued at $39,500. Lee, who won the Bassmaster Weekend Series tournament here 3 weeks prior, stated that he felt he wasn’t on the fish very well but was able to catch a 9.35lb monster to carry him to a day weight of 25.09lbs despite the foul weather. His second day weight was only 12.64lbs but was enough to give him the win with over a 7 ½ pound lead over Steven Hughes of Mexia, TX who came in second with 30.11lbs. Lee caught most of his 37.73 on a Texas rigged watermelon/red baby brush hog in 10 foot of water or less. Rounding out the top 5 were Rick Scott of College Station, TX with 29.88lbs in third, Jamie Narramore of Lavaca, AR with 29.32lbs in fourth, and Mike Michalec of Willis, TX with 26.03lbs in fifth place.

On the co-angler side it was Brian Tolley of Katy, TX who took home the honors with a two day total of 24.16lbs. Chris Stewart (2nd place), Robert Chandler Jr. (3rd place), Tommy Fredregrill (4th place), and Mitch Hawkins (5th place) finished out the top five. The next stop for the South West division of the Grand Slam is on the Red River in Alexandria, LA on May 16 & 17, 2008 where another fully rigged Triton, Mercury, Motorguide package worth nearly $40,000 will be given to one lucky pro.

American Bass Anglers Introduces the Professional Tour

American Bass Anglers is proud to offer a Professional Bass Fishing Tour for 2007. While there is the place for high entry fee huge money tournaments, the industry has changed to the point that it ran off and left the aspiring professional angler. American Bass Anglers is returning to the roots of Professional Bass angling by offering a tournament series for the aspiring professional angler.

The concept of the ABA Professional Tour is to turn back the clock to a time where the stars of today were born. ABA knows there is a lot of potential fishing talent out there that simply can not afford the staggering high entry fees of today.

The ABA Professional Tour will offer 6 events for 2007. The first five events will be qualifiers and the final the ABA Professional Tour Championship. The 5 ABA Tour qualifiers will have a professional entry fee of $550 and a non-boater entry fee of $155.

The payout will be entry fee based and will be over 80% with first place paying $20,000 with a full field of 200 professional anglers. The non-boaters will get a shot at a $5,000 payday with a full field.

Here are some highlights:

  • 10 qualifying events (Southeast US, SouthCentral US)
  • 1 Championship (TBD)
  • Entry Fee: Boater - $550 per event, Non-Boater - $155 per event
  • Qualifying Events payback 25% of field
  • Entries for the 2007 season will be taken beginning December 4, 2006.
  • Field Limit: 200 Boaters, 200 Non-Boaters

ABA TURNS BACK THE CLOCK ON ENTRY FEES WITH ITS NEW PROFESSIONAL TOUR

Athens, AL-August 30, 2006

The unrealistic escalation of tournament entry fees into professional tournaments coupled with skyrocketing fuel costs have left a lot of aspiring anglers and veterans out of the loop.  Professional angling has become the realm of the financially well off, those with major sponsorships, or those willing to risk bankruptcy or family financial hardships in order to compete.
